Sempai Harvey Turner

Sempai Turner's first exposure to Kyokushinkai was in 1984 under Shihan Tony (John) Farrel in Pittsburgh. He had previously trained in Tang So Do and Isshinryu Karate. He obtained his Shodan from Shihan Farrel in 1986 and continued to train under Shihan until he moved to Virginia in 1988. Sempai Harvey competed in his first Kyokushinkai tournament in 1992, which was held in Rochester NY at the age of 35, taking second place in his division. From then on, he has been training on his own, teaching and working with several students.

Sempai Turner has been married to his wife Carla of 29 years and has three adult children and one grand child. He is currently employed as a first-level manager with Verizon Communications, working in the Special Access department. He supervises the installation of high capacity transport lines for business such as AT&T, MCI and Sprint. He is currently pursuing a B.S. in Information Systems Management and Business Management.

Sempai Turner's interests include Karate, teaching others, weight training, cooking, his family, and his 11 month old grandson, Khristian.
